Learn to Dive at Home or on Holiday?

Many people discover scuba diving while planning a trip to a beautiful destination like Thailand, Egypt, or Indonesia. It’s tempting to get certified while on vacation — and many divers do.

But learning to dive at home first often leads to a much better diving experience later.

Dive courses are rushed in holiday destinations

When dive courses are taught in tourist destinations, they are often compressed into a few days to fit holiday schedules. Students complete the required skills and dives — enough to pass the certification — but sometimes without the time needed to truly feel comfortable underwater.

Learning to dive locally can be a better experience

Instead of rushing through a course during a holiday, you can focus on building real confidence underwater. Skills can be practiced, refined, and repeated until they feel natural. There is time to understand buoyancy, breathing, and situational awareness — the things that actually make someone a good diver.

As a certified PADI instructor, I fully respect and follow PADI’s training standards and performance requirements. These standards exist for a reason — and I do not bend them to fit rushed holiday schedules.

My goal is simple: coach divers until they feel calm, controlled, and confident underwater. Think of it less like a quick course and more like personal dive coaching.

The benefits of getting certified before your dive trip

Once you earn your certification and feel comfortable in the water, your holiday dives become something completely different. Instead of struggling with equipment or buoyancy, you can relax and fully enjoy the ocean, the marine life, and the adventure.

In other words: Learn to dive before your trip. Enjoy diving during your trip.

Because the goal isn’t just to get a certification card. It’s to become a confident diver anywhere in the world.
